StarTech.com 4 Port Wall Mountable USB to Serial Adapter Hub with COM Retention (ICUSB2324X) Beware the lack of details for unit in this website description

Beware the lack of details for unit in this website description, Just received 4-port serial to USB adapter.
As usual, Amazon waited a week to ship because it was free shipping, even though in stock.

Unit does not come with an A/C adapter, it requires 9 - 32VDC, so you have to provide DC power to
it either by buying your own adapter or finding the voltage somewhere, very inconvenient.

Instruction manual is a bad copy of an old one I guess, maybe this is old device and they dont
sell enough to warrant a real manual.

Beware, manual says unit has limited functionality on Vista, this is the reason I ordered the unit
as my old one does not support Vista. So I will try this one, but I am afraid it is same as my
old one and will not work. Will update review when I try it.

"QUATECH PCMCIA HIGH-SPEED EPP PARALLEL PORT FOR CONNECTING PRINTERS, SCANNERS, S" It didn't suit my purpose

Excellent Performance - Good Product - Straight-forward Installation, This is a solid product. I bought this to be able to connect/configure my Cisco routers & switches via the com serial port using my Laptop. It works flawlessly. It's fast, reliable, and does the job wonderfully.

I could've bought a cheapie $15 alternative on FleaBay but the quality on all of those looked terrible and they weren't compatible with the new Windows Vista. Plus Quatech backs up their products with a 5 year warranty.

The only downside is that I think I should've spent the extra $7-$10 and bought the rugged version which is the SSRP100. I thought that this version would be ideal because the end cable is detachable in case I accidentally snap it off, I could always just buy a replacement cable. But it turns out that the rugged version is not a fixed attached cable but also the same detachable cable as well, except the rugged version is more durable. So far the performance is good but right now I'm scared to snap the end cable while it's attached to the PCMCIA card.
It didn't suit my purpose, I spent a lot of time trying to find a solution that worked for a project I'm working. I needed a parallel connection for my laptop that I could plug a microcontroller programmer (Atmel's AT89ISP)into. I tried a few other items that only gave printer support, and I opted for this, even though it was a bit pricey, since it was supposed to provide a true EPP Parallel port. However, it isn't working at all for me. I'm not sure if I can blame Quatech, or if Atmel's program is just ill-prepared to use the port, but the programmer works fine on my desktop and fails miserably with the Quatech adapter.
