StarTech.com 1-Port PCI Parallel Adapter Card (PCI1PECP)

Requires Manual Intervention with Windows 7, (What's this?) I bought this card because my new (home-built) Windows 7 computer had no parallel port integrated into the motherboard, and I still wanted to use my perfectly serviceable HP Laserjet. I began by installing the card, but not attaching the printer. On my setup, Windows obviously detected the new card since it showed up in Device Manager, but Windows did not offer to install any drivers.
Win7 64 bit with SafeNet dongle works great, (What's this?) When a USB to parallel converter cable didn't work at all with the SafeNet dongle I needed to use, I tried this PCI parallel card instead. It works great with the dongle. The enclosed CD contained all the drivers necessary for Windows 7 64 bit, even thought the printed manual did not mention Windows 7 at all. The driver does have to be installed manually, though.
Flawless - and I'm a hero again, (What's this?) I recently spec'd out a Dell Vostros 230 system for a family member who runs a small home business. I was a hero at first, but that didn't last long. I had forgot that a Laserjet 4200 was in regular use and the Vostros arrived without a 25 pin serial port.
Finally printing, yay!, (What's this?) I have Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit and an older HP PSC 500 with a homebuilt computer. The other mobo went out and the new one didn't have a parallel port. I like this HP printer and really didn't want to replace. The parallel to USB adapters will not work with this particular HP. And Win 7 wont recognize the scanning ability of the HP PSC 500 either, but that has nothing to do with this card...

I put the card in the new motherboard, booted up and all the drivers downloaded and installed automatically. First attempt at trying to print, got a printer offline error. Went into Device and Printers, manually removed the printer, manually added it again and changed it to LPT3, which is what the Device Manager says the PCI card was on, and printed a test page. Yay! It works!

Thank you previous reviewers. They helped me, so hopefully this review will help some one else.
win7 64bit hp psc500 ok, (What's this?) Installed without a hitch in Windows 7 64-bit on an Intel Media series motherboard. I needed it to hook up an old printer/copier, HP PSC 500.
Worked great with Windows 7 and LaserJet 2100, (What's this?) I needed a solution to get a new Windows 7 Home Premium PC without a parallel port connected to a LaserJet 2100 which only has a parallel port. I looked at various USB-to-parallel cables/solutions, but the reviews on these were not great. So I decided to take the plunge and add this parallel i/o card. The product box contained not only the card itself, but also documentation and a driver CD.
Startech.com PCI1PECP EPP/ECP Parallel PCI Card (1-port), Works fine on for Windows XP and Quickbooks. Plug and play didn't work on my Dell system. But, the included drivers installed quickly and easily with no problems. Used to hook up Panasonic line printer.
Windows yes, Linux, good luck, you'll need it!, (What's this?) Like many products, this works great in Windows. Linux is not for the faint of heart. There is no install wizard in/for Linux.
Excellent product, (What's this?) Excellent product-- I was prepared for the usual battle getting a PCI/parallel port card to work correctly. I installed this, powered up, turned my back briefly and discovered Windows Xp had the job all done for me with essentially no intervention.
Just what the doctor ordered!, (What's this?) Installed Windows 7 Ultimate on my Gateway. Was running Windows XP Pro and had a HP LaserJet 5 printer. Printer would not work with Windows 7 nor in the virtual XP mode. Read the reviews on how others were successful in installing this card to run older printers and thought it was worth a $23 gamble to see if I could make it work with my LaserJet 5. I followed the advise in those reviews from people who were more knowledgeable than I on how it install it. I was successful and my HP LaserJet 5 is up and running again. Needless to say I am VERY HAPPY with this purchase.
